We want to be good at what we do each day. We want to feel that we are making an impact. I doubt many people sit around and think “What can I do today to be mediocre?” As leaders, our desire should be to see our people and organization grow.
Healthy growth is foundational and will come if we are willing to lead people and manage the process. Toxicity in an organization can grow rapidly if we do not have the right culture and the right leaders (check out our other blogs!).
Win with people. Win with the bottom line. Win at business. Have you ever stopped to consider what “winning” actually means? Let’s evaluate “winning” a little closer.
Winning is…..
- People want to know how to win! DEFINE it and show them HOW to achieve it. Performance Accountability, behaviors included, is a scorecard for what winning looks like, qualitatively and quantitively. In my career, I have led in nonprofit and for-profit organizations and performance accountability is usually inconsistent or applied in the wrong manner (too aggressive or too lax).
- Clear vision. Clear Roles. Clear Goals. If our teams do not understand the vision (where we are going as an organization), the role they play in the vision, or how the goals for the organization, department, and individual all connect and benefit each other….ambiguity, confusion, and irritation will grow! Be clear. Put it down in writing or it doesn’t exist!
- Learning your people. One-on-one meetings, with the right questions and format, will build a solid foundation of relationship and trust so when the team is winning or losing, you can quickly address issues and behaviors, and create patterns of success in a manner each individual can understand and act upon.
XCL Group has proven systems and processes to address the three game-changers listed above. We are partnering with organizations that are serious about taking action and healthy growth!
